Managing 8D Interventions
Summary
Our Managing 8D Interventions course focuses on the effective leadership and management of 8D problem solving within engineering and operational environments. While many organisations use 8D as a structured framework, investigations often fail to deliver sustainable results due to poor team engagement, weak problem definition, inadequate evidence, and ineffective corrective actions.
The course focuses on how to manage investigations in practice, coordinating cross-functional teams, maintaining momentum, ensuring robust decision making, and driving issues through to effective and sustainable resolution.
The course does not reteach 8D in detail. Instead, it builds on existing knowledge to develop the practical leadership, facilitation, and governance skills required to make 8D work effectively in real organisational settings.
How will I benefit?
After the course you will be able to:
- Lead 8D investigations with clarity, structure, and pace
- Manage cross-functional teams and maintain collaboration throughout investigations
- Challenge weak problem definitions, assumptions, and unsupported conclusions
- Ensure decisions are based on evidence rather than opinion or hierarchy
- Identify and avoid common failure modes in 8D investigations
- Develop corrective actions that address root causes and prevent recurrence
- Improve the consistency and credibility of investigation outputs
Who should attend?
This course is designed for professionals who are responsible for leading or managing structured problem-solving activity within their organisation. Participants should already have a working knowledge of 8D or structured problem solving. Typical participants include:
- Quality and continuous improvement professionals
- Team leaders and supervisors responsible for investigations
- Engineers involved in recurring or complex problem-solving activity
